چکیده

Blastic natural killer (NK) cell lymphoma / leukemia is a rare NK cell malignancy of unknown etiology. It occurs in multiple sites and with a propensity for skin involvement. We report such a case in a 35-year-old male suffering from erythematous and purpuric papules and plaques on his face and trunk for 6 months. A biopsy specimen of the skin showed diffuse infiltration of blastlike lymphoid cells in the dermis and subcutis. Immunohistochemical study showed the tumor cells were only positive for CD56 and CD45 and negative for other T-cell, B-cell, and myeloid cell markers. T-cell receptor (TCR) gene rearrangement was germline. In situ hybridization for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) encoded small ribonucleic acid was negative. Aspiration specimen of the bone marrow revealed diffuse infiltration of CD56 + lymphoid cells in interstitial spaces. The diagnosis of a blastic NK-cell lymphoma / leukemia was made. Because of its rarity, the case is reported. (Dermatol Sinica 21 : 408-412, 2003)

Pediatric Natural Killer Cell Malignancy

Natural killer (NK) cell malignancy is a heterogeneous disorder and rare, representing <1% of non-Hodgkin lymphomas for most of the world, except in Asia and Latin America. In Asia, especially, the incidence of NK-cell lymphomas is approximately 7%–10% of lymphomas [Au et al., 2005]. The pathogenesis of NK-cell malignancies has not yet been fully elucidated. In the 2008 World Health Organizatio...

A Case of Aggressive NK/T-cell Lymphoma/Leukemia with Cutaneous Involvement in Adolescence.

NK/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is characterized by the expression of the NK-cell antigen CD56. Non-nasal NK/T-cell lymphomas are subdivided into primary cutaneous and 4 subtypes of secondary cutaneous lymphomas; nasal type, aggressive, blastic (blastoid), and other specific NK-like cell lymphoma. Aggressive NK/T-cell lymphoma/leukemia is a rare leukemic variant of nasal type NKTCL. We herein report...

NK and NK-related neoplasms.

Owing to the immunological progress in recent years, differentiation and maturation process of NK cells or NK-related cells has been made clear. Also, their neoplastic counterparts, namely NK cell related lymphoma/leukemia have been characterized. In this paper, we will report NK cell neoplasms based on the new classification of malignant lymphomas. Among these, nasal lymphoma is one of the mos...
